A part refurb, part new build scheme to a rural collection of outbuildings in the AONB of Monmouthshire. The proposal seeks to add an annexe to the existing house.

 

Maintaining the existing footprint and materiality of the outbuildings, a modern take on a rural vernacular forms the concept. Stone gabled bookends create the enclosure of a thermally massive, timber volume, clad in cedar shingles. An additional corrugated metal volume, set perpendicular to the adjoining building, has a double height living space that opens up to the garden and southern aspect with views of the landscape beyond.
