THE TRIANGLE

The Triangle is an existing painted brick ex-council house in Brockweir, Wye Valley. The two-storey utilitarian semi-detached house has a unique context and sits within a large mature stepped garden that has the unique aspect of a wild meadow paddock beyond. The house is accessed and approached obliquely via a pedestrian path off the road where it is screened by mature boundary hedges.

The extensions footprint aims to create a soft edge to this aspect providing privacy from the road and neighbour’s whilst making a connection to the garden from within the house itself.

The proposed roofline is set lower than the existing ridge and follows the existing roofline to create a soft timber edge to the garden, akin to a boundary fence condition. From the garden aspect at ground floor the extension opens up to the garden with large folding doors, and at first floor, windows are positioned for privacy and to frame views across the landscape.

The extension is clad in untreated cedar timber which will soften with age and gently silver into its context alongside the existing white rendered elevation. The roof will feature a silver grey profiled metal roof and integrated PV panels.
